Seniors Russ Carpenter and Skylar Holland will continue their playing careers as teammates at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee. The two signed their National Letters of Intent at the top of the RHS Fieldhouse on Tuesday evening. Their signings brings the team total of college signees up to five (Judd Ward–Auburn, Cody Greenhill–Auburn, and Chad Wray–South Alabama).
Holland is the third member of this year’s Golden Tiger pitching staff to sign a baseball scholarship, joining Greenhill and Wray. Holland has solidified himself as the third man in the pitching rotation and has amassed a 5-2 record as a starter and a 1.94 ERA. He pitched a complete game shutout in the Golden Tigers’ first round game three victory over Mortimer Jordan. When he is not on the mound, Holland typically finds himself playing first base defensively. He is also one of the best bats in the Golden Tiger lineup, batting .336 with six home runs on the year. He is second on the team in every hitting category.
Russ Carpenter is a two year starter at catcher and has really developed into a defensive weapon for the Golden Tigers. This year, his batting has improved drastically, and he has been in the lineup as a hitter, which was not the case a year ago. This season, he is batting .277, and his on base percentage is .403.
The Golden Tigers are only one of two teams this season to reach the thirty win mark (Decatur). They will look to continue their title defense this Friday and Saturday in a round two series at Arab.
Congrats to Skylar and Russ!
