The Golden Tigers track team had a great showing at the Class 5A Section 4 Meet hosted by James Clemens High School. After the meet concluded and all results across the state were submitted, the Golden Tigers were informed that they will represent RHS in eight events at the AHSAA State Track and Field Championships. Last season, only one Golden Tiger qualified for the big meet.
Eight grader Grayson Eady will return for his second consecutive state meet after placing second at sectionals in the boys javelin. His throw of 154′ 6″ was just five inches short of the first place throw. He will enter the meet as the five seed.
Senior Chloe Pounders qualified to compete in the 400m dash, posting a time 1:03.19 minutes. That is good enough for the thirteen seed in the state race. She will be competing against twenty-three other runners. Chloe has qualified for the state meet for five out of her six years of track competition. The only year she missed was last season.
Freshman distance runner Naydelin Romero-Momentey qualified for the 1600m run with a time of 6:08.85 minutes. Freshman Andres Campos also qualified in the boys 1600m run with a time of 4:56.06 minutes.
Junior Robert Hamilton finished fourth in the 100m dash at sectionals. He posted a time of 11.80 seconds, earning himself the seventeenth seed in the state meet.
Senior Nate Franklin qualified in two events in his first season with the Golden Tiger track team. He qualified for the boys long jump with a jump of 20′ 7.25″. He also qualified for the boys high jump with a jump of 5′ 10″.
The boys 4x400m relay team also qualified for the state meet with at time of 3:42.2 minutes. Hamilton, Franklin, freshman Jamal Hubbard, and freshman JD Price ran the event. Price was a substitute for Devin Buckhalter, who typically runs the last leg of the race.
The state meet begins on Thursday and concludes on Saturday. Results will be posted as soon as they are available.
