On Friday night, the Russellville Varsity Boys went on the road to area rival East Limestone and came home with a 62-55 victory over the Indians. The Golden Tigers (5-13, 1-5) snapped a six game skid with the victory.
After trailing 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, the Golden Tigers outscored the Indians 18-12 in the second quarter to take a 30-26 lead into the lockerroom at halftime. They were able to do this with junior guard Devin Buckhalter on the bench with three fouls. Junior guard Lucas McNutt and freshmen Chandler Dyas scored seven points each in the quarter. RHS was able to seal the game in the fourth quarter by going 11 of 15 from the free throw line.
Dyas led the the Golden Tigers with fifteen points. McNutt and Buckhalter scored thirteen a piece. Junior Caden Parker added eight points in the effort.
The win solidified Brooks as the regular season area champions, so the area tournament will be held in Killen. Brooks will face Russellville, and Lawrence County will play East Limestone. Dates and times will be updated as soon as they are set.
Russellville returns to action on Monday night at Central-Florence. The JV boys start the games in the new gym at 4:30pm followed by the varsity girls and varsity boys. The 8th grade boys tip off at 4:00pm in the old gym, followed by the 8th grade girls and 7th grade boys.
